Obtaining[]
Unlocking[]
Access to Iron Ore is not explicitly locked behind research in the technology tree and is available to obtain from the start of the game.
Crafting[]
Iron Ore cannot be crafted via the inventory and can only be obtained using Terrain Manipulation tools or from Machines. As soon as the Groundbreaker has obtained a 
Iron Pickaxe they can approach a Iron Ore Vein and obtain a small amount of iron ore by striking it. This is inefficient and typically unnecessary - following the main story progression the Groundbreaker will unlock 
Mining Drill's which can obtain Ore far more efficiently in exchange for fuel.
Usage[]
Iron Ore is predominantly used, either directly or via intermediary products, for the construction of Iron Ingot's via smelting.
Research[]
Iron Ore is used to unlock the second tier of Production Terminal Lima, the first tier unlock in the game. Tier 2 of Production Terminal Lima requires 10 x Iron Ore and 10 x 
Copper Ore to unlock.
